Nazim Abbasov
Uzbek filmmaker. Born in 1958 in the city of Tashkent. Abbasov graduated from the art faculty of Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in 1984. Abbasov, a very secular man, managed to capture on film not only the everyday life and customs of Central Asian sufis, but also the innermost workings of their mystical mysteries: zikr, dervish worship, where only the most dedicated followers are allowed to participate. According to the director, he tried to convey the atmosphere of the spiritual search, without placing any emphasis or intervening; he just shot what he saw.
