Performance directed by Saodat Ismailov "Qyrq Qyz" ("Forty girls») created by the International Foundation Aga Khan Trust for Culture (in the framework of the Aga Khan Music Initiative) in cooperation with Art and culture development foundation under the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Uzbekistan while filming video. The production, in which the composer Dmitry Yanov-Yanovsky took part, is based on the Karakalpak epos, which tells about heroic warrior maidens, defenders of their people. The video sequence of the performance was shot in Karakalpakstan, as well as in one of the oldest mosques in Tashkent Azlarkhon eshon masjidi. The one-and-a-half-hour production reconstructs the history of the Karakalpak epos in a musical and artistic-abstract form. The performance will feature numerous folk instruments, as well as classical schools of vocal art in Central Asia: the Tanovar of Uzbekistan, the dastans of Karakalpakstan, prolonged singing and zhiry (throat singing) Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
