On July 22nd at the Center for Contemporary Art Dr. Bakhodir Jalal, the national artist of Uzbekistan delivered his lecture on “Frescoes of Modernism”. Bakhodir Jalal is a prominent artist, professor, and a laureate of a number of state awards of the USSR and awards of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Jalal is famous for his monumental art pieces, numerous murals in different cities of Uzbekistan. His frescoes are unique in their spatial and plastic characteristics and in their capacity to become an integral part of shaping an urban cultural space. In his works the artist appeals to the use of complex silhouettes and angles, sometimes making bodies fantastically float in space. In his lecture, the artist spoke about his extended career as well as about several works presented at international exhibitions. The lecture was attended by numerous representatives of professional community: artists, art historians, architects and curators. The event ended with thought provoking Q&A session.
