CCA Lab - is a unique non-commercial project that has no analogues in Uzbekistan for young artists, created by the Center for Contemporary Art. For the second year already, the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Arts, together with the Project Curator, have selected the best works, the authors of which are given the opportunity to realize their artistic expression.
Contemporary art is a mirror of society. One of its functions is to reflect today's problems of the individual and society.
The Center for Contemporary Art worked closely with young artists and art researchers and produced the first graduate of young people who were able to demonstrate their skills and vision in exhibitions and through individual or collective projects. Today, the educational interdisciplinary laboratory continues to work to support and train its participants and is ready to assemble a new team of like-minded people.
To participate in the selection, the following materials are required:
1.CV in English
2. Portfolio (in .pdf format) or essay (for art historians) or CD with video (for video artists)
3. Motivation letter (no more than 200 words)
The curriculum vitae, works and letter of motivation of the participants must contain information about the activity in the arts and the reasons that prompted them to apply to participate in the CCA Lab.
Project experts evaluate the work of the participants, share opinions, exchange comments and become a kind of virtual mentors. Authors of the best works will have the opportunity to implement personal projects and get acquainted at lectures and master classes with leading international cultural and art workers.
It is necessary to demonstrate:
- sufficient artistic level
- acquaintance with the methods and practices of contemporary art (contemporary art)
- ability and desire to work in a team
- readiness to work in multimedia projects
- independence, responsibility and punctuality in performing tasks
- social awareness and engagement
- the ability to maintain a regular dialogue with colleagues and project curators
The selection of participants will take place in two stages
- online application submission
- interview with CCA Lab curator 2021

Linguist, writer and artist Alexey Ulko will be the curator of the Laboratory this year. Currently he collaborates with such publications as "Art Journal", ALUAN and "Kurak", as well as with publishing houses Hertfordshire Press and Kuperard Publishing and various online resources. In 2007–2014 he was a participant and member of the jury of several Central Asian festivals of literature and experimental cinema. He is a member of the Association of Art Historians (UK), the European Society for the Study of Central Asia and the Society for the Study of Central Eurasia (USA). Lives and works in Samarkand and Tashkent.
